SUMMER READING WORK

--

Hi — Welcome to Summer!

(and to the 2014 Summer Reading Requirements)

We hope you enjoy these books, and that the assignments you complete will deepen your understanding and help provide you with the foundation that you’ll need in order to discuss and present your ideas when we start school in the fall.

THIS WORK IS REQUIRED AND WILL ALSO BE YOUR FIRST IMPORTANT GRADED ASSIGNMENT IN ENGLISH CLASS NEXT YEAR.

Required Reading — Carefully & thoughtfully read each of the following books:

1. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

2. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Required Assignments:

1. For The Book Thief: See attached guidelines for Post-reading Questions for Writing and for Our September Symposium.

2. For The Catcher in the Rye: See attached guidelines for keeping a “dialectical journal” as you read the book.

And, remember:

“What is written without effort is in general read without pleasure.” Samuel Johnson

Have a wonderful summer!

Please attach this to your assignment before submitting it.

I have read the requirements of the summer reading assignment. During the summer months, I will read the required books and complete the required writing assignments. I understand that this IS REQUIRED work. My parent(s)/guardian(s) has / have read the summer reading assignment and support your requirements.
