The Most “Instagrammable” Spots on Campus
Melissa Mesnick ‘21
It’s no secret that the University of South Carolina has tons of beautiful scenery to get that perfect selfie or nature shot for your Instagram. I went around campus and found some of my favorite picture-perfect spots.
Horizon Garage: The most beautiful sunset photo you will ever take. At least one time during your college career at Carolina, you will watch the sunset at the top of the Horizon Garage. Students bring picnics, take pictures during golden hour, or just go relax after a day of classes with friends. The sun sets behind the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness center along with neighboring buildings, creating beautiful orange sunsets.
Gardens by the Horseshoe: Everyone and their mother knows about the Horseshoe. The less common — but equally as pretty — are the small courtyard gardens tucked outside of the Horseshoe. The gardens have little fountains with benches and flowers that make for a great picture when your Instagram is in need of a nature picture.
The fountain by Thomas Cooper Library: Everyone loves a great fountain picture, but also the deeper meaning of the fountain implies a celebration. The fountain in the morning is beautiful and serene. The only downside: never being able to capture the true sound of the water droplets reaching the pond below.
The Pickens Street bridge: Early mornings and dusk are opportune times to witness the beauty of Capstone along with the beautiful trees below. Another type of aesthetic is late at night when the Top of Carolina is glowing. After an athletic win, the Top of Carolina will be lit garnet.
