It is not easy to present Vlad Stan in a few lines, but we could define him as a changemaker and “serial enterpreneur”. He has lived and created companies in a multitude of countries pursuing the ideal of “know-mad” life (nomadic knowledge) with its thousands of followers on Twitter. This citizen of the world, from Bucharest, closed his suitcases from Silicon Valley to take them at the ParcBit. Do you want to know more?

Vlad Stan

How long have you been in Mallorca? And How have you heard from Parc Bit?

I was visiting Mallorca 3 years ago when a friend of mine told me about Parcbit. And when I visited it for the first time, I was impressed. I was meeting with some interesting people around here, and I loved the spirit and the attitude and decided to move to Mallorca.

What makes Mallorca a unique place to live and work in the IT sector?

In Mallorca there is a lot of knowledge in the travel industry, so if you are a startup in travel this is definitely better than Silicon Valley. You can find all kinds of companies in travel here, and some of them with huge international success.

Which projects are you working on right now? How this project might change the Tourism industry? And what are the advantages for the user?

When I moved here I was building something in the travel space, but our intelectual curiosity always went into other direction: Bitcoin. And starting this year we decided to dedicate full time to this new space. I think cryptocurrencies will radically transform many industry, including tourism.

Which programing language or software are you using and how do you develop it? What was your biggest reward and challenge to build a team here in Parc Bit?

We do now Swift and Javascript. Our team is not located in Parcbit, ww work completely remote, with people from all over the world. Only I live here, and my confounder is visiting from time to time.

What are the next projects that you have in mind?

Right now we are building a portfolio manager for people willing to invest in cryptocurrencies.

You have been previously working in the Silicon Valley, is it worth as an experience for an entepreneur? Do you think that more persons like you will make the move to Mallorca?

Sillicon Valley is the Mecca for any entrepreneur. I don’t think Palma should try to replicate SV, but I really think you should find a positioning to help people understand why is important to move to Mallorca. You have a beautiful island, an amazing location where you can work, and amazing living conditions in general. And if you are a startup in travel all the knowledge you need.

How do you see the IT labour work in the future?

I think people will work more and more remote. So team will be distributed across the globe. They will need to meet from time to time, and Palma can be an amazing location for these kind of meetings.

What would be your recommendations to a student that wants work in the IT industry?

Go to as many hackatons as possible. There are so many all over Europe, you can have one once a week if you want. Lear to code, but also learn what it means to build a product and what it means to build a company.

Which book or a movie about technologies has impacted you the most (related with the future of technology)?

I don’t know I read a lot, but the last one with a big impact was Mastering Bitcoin, because I learned most of the things about the subject from this book.
