“Marta” by Jack Garcia

Jacquiline is the name my mother gave me

its the name that i respond to most of the time…

some days its unbearable

how do you suddenly change a name?

“jack” is what my hat at work says

hearing people call me by that name is

so

strangely

validating

I could never utter it…

Hey, I’m trans

I’ve changed my pronouns on Facebook,

hoping that they’d get the hint…

Jacquiline updated THEIR status

I can’t outright say it….

Hey, I’m trans

I’ve let my body hair grow

-hell I even have a mustache

BLESS my ethnic genes

I can never say it….

Hey, I’m trans

I’m trying to hint at it

countless times I’ve tried

fear and hate prevent me from saying it….

Hey, I’m trans

I’m struggling to admit it

I have something to say

I am no woman

I am no man

I am nothing

but hey,

I’m trans
