SunContract Announces Strategic Partnership with Kobarid Municipality

SunContract is pleased to announce cooperation with Kobarid Slovenian municipality.
At today’s press conference, the mayor of the Kobarid municipality, Mr Marko Matajurc, and the co-founder and director of the SunContract platform, Gregor Novak, signed a letter of intent to enter cooperation as partners in the field of energy self sufficiency and sustainability.
The letter intends to lay the foundations for long-term cooperation between the Municipality of Kobarid and the global energy blockchain platform — SunContract.
The project envisions investments in the amount of 1.5 million euros in the installation of solar power plants to municipal and commercial facilities in the municipality and up to 50 self-sufficient solar power plants for citizens in the next two years.
The municipality could then gradually build a self-sufficient community for itself, for all interested citizens, and at the same time build on its future touristic offer.
Objective: An energy self-sufficient, active and sustainable municipality
During the conference, Marko Matajurc, Mayor of Kobarid municipality, emphasized that the objective of the municipality in the envisioned public-private partnership is to promote private investment, allowing for self-sufficiency as a municipality by means of renewable energy, especially solar power plants, and energy-efficiency products such as heat pumps.
“The need for electricity is constantly increasing, but prices are also rising. With the support of our partners, we want to become an active self-sufficient community, which will not only reach but exceed the EU’s commitment to 32% of the end-use energy from renewable sources by 2030. Planned partnership could help both the municipality as well as our citizens to save on electricity costs. The transition to a self-sufficient electricity community would be achieved through solar power plants, which have no negative impact on the environment, as we will use existing municipal and private facilities, says Marko Matajurc, Mayor of Kobarid municipality.”
The goal of the first phase would be four solar power plants with estimated total power of 0.5 MWp. »We would also try to gain interest of our citizens and economic operators to set up their own solar power plants by themselves,” pointed out Marko Miklavič, deputy mayor of Kobarid.
A global service with a ripple effect on local communities

But by participating in the project with the municipality of Kobarid, we enter the field of local self-sufficiency communities, where we transfer the advantage of the global platform services to the local level. Although investment in a solar power plant is profitable in the long run, the high initial investment cost is often an impediment and municipalities, businesses or individuals do not opt for this step immediately, explains SunContract project’s CEO — Gregor Novak.
In the first phase, SunContract is willing to stimulate local investments in renewable sources, and provide global services that connect producers and consumers of electricity to eliminate such obstacles.
