Metamorphosis

A poem by Harley Cortez

Painting by Harley Cortez

She’s turning into an angel
Right before my very eyes

She wears an oxygen tank
Like a halo (it’s hard to breathe on earth)

And as twilight approaches
She embodies her child self

The infant, once able to see angels
Was looking at her future self

Light does not dim,
It is forever luminous

She will be gone soon
But then, she will be everywhere

The great shattering of the sky
In all the ultraviolet hues

She’ll turn into an angel
Right before our blind eyes

She will be gone soon
But then, she will be everywhere.
