picture me perfectly balanced on a tightrope
i’m looking down at the sharks and they say
come join us
we want to devour you and your healthy ambition

and i’m wondering to myself, would it really be so bad?
but i know better than to listen to sharks
and then they start singing and it’s quite beautiful
so i ask, where did you learn how to sing like that?
it’s like a shark choir down there and it sounds heavenly

and the biggest shark tells me
that the previous tightrope walker was a singing teacher
and he taught them all how to sing so they would let him go
and did you let him go? i ask

they shake their heads while their voices warble
