On day twenty five
I find myself feeling jealous
of all the dogs
and cats
the butterflies and birds
particularly
the hummingbirds
whose eggs have just hatched
right outside my bedroom window
I find myself in envy
of the way
they’re all
carrying on
going about
their animal days
as if nothing has changed
feeding their young
rubbing fir
socially converging
without thinking
