Sunrise Stories: The invitation

The most incredible thing happens every day. The Sunrise. You know what the sunrise is, right? Have you seen, heard, and felt the sunrise? Have you really paid attention to just what is happening as that blanket of colours and light transforms the night? As the birds erupt into chorus? As the mists shrink back to open the landscape? I want to suggest to you, that for every sunrise you encounter, there are in fact billions more, happening all the time and around the world.

Through each other’s eyes, in focussing on the same moment, we recognise that we live here together under the same sun; through the differences in how we see this moment, we can celebrate and learn of the infinite ways this moment can be refracted into our world and our humanity.

The invitation — to take part, like a droplet of morning dew on a deep green leaf, in a movement to capture the many colours that emerge as the dawn once again reveals itself.

Together, these descriptions make a collection that can offer poetry, science, intercultural exchange and inspiration to see the sunrise in a new light. The imagination and the moment come together, so that, while we see (or hear, or feel) the sunrise in front of us, we connect with the other who wrote as they were also enraptured by this same cosmic ritual.

In 300 words or less, describe the sunrise. Imagine, if it helps, that you are describing it for the first time to someone who has never known it. Describe it from your point of view and as a representative of a field, culture, religion, or specialization. Describe as you alone, your unique and personal rainbow. Take ownership of the knowledge, feelings, tribe and memories that make you. Do you see beams of light, the blessing of your God, the fox`s retreat, the inspiration for a painting, or the day you became who you are today?
