There’s something about cameos that just tickles the brain. Jumping out of your seat and saying, “I know that person!” never gets tiresome. While I love a good movie cameo — Bill Murray in Zombieland or Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder come to mind — there’s nothing quite like a gaming cameo.

Unlike movies where cameos appear primarily in comedy, gaming showcases the true potential of a cameo. Everything from brief appearances to voice acting roles that flew right over your head.

Two that barely missed my list are Mark Hamil for his role as the Joker in the Arkham games and Ellen Page in Beyond: Two Souls. (And so many others, this was hard to narrow down!)

Enough banter, here are my seven favorite cameos in gaming:

1. The Legend of Spyro Trilogy — Elijah Wood

“Bring him on! I think I smell a barbecue!” — Elijah Wood as Spyro the Dragon

The Legend of Spyro is one of those games I’m not sure why I’m nostalgic for. I remember flying around and doing some cool dragon things, but other than that, I’m at a loss. But if there’s one aspect I can’t forget it’s Elijah Wood’s voice work.
