The world of gaming changed when Call of Duty released the “Der Reise” zombie map. It differed from any other experience I’ve had in online gaming, in part because it requires lots of teamwork and preparation before confronting the zombie hoard. Since the release of Der Riese in 2010, zombie gameplay has grown. There are more Easter eggs, setups, and variations of zombies in the newer maps available.

Yet despite all these impressive additions, none can hold a candle to Der Riese.

The Nostalgic Vibes

I’m sure millions of gamers were around for Nacht Der Untoten, the first Call of Duty Zombies map in World at War.

That I could remember that entire map better than the layout of my house was a telltale sign I had a unique connection with it.

Starting in the middle of the factory with your team, opening doors, and turning on the power was muscle memory and consistently satisfying.
