Everything We Know About Final Fantasy XVI
Square Enix’s explosive trailer was full of juicy details
Final Fantasy XVI was announced during Sony’s PlayStation 5 showcase. There’s a great deal of information to dive into. Here’s our full breakdown of everything that we know so far about the next big Final Fantasy game.
After days — or even weeks — of rumors, Final Fantasy XVI is now a reality. Opening the PlayStation 5 September showcase, the game was officially announced by Square Enix with Naoki Yoshida (Final Fantasy XIV, Dragon Quest X) as the producer and Hiroshi Takai (Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, The Last Remnant) as the director.
The trailer may have been brief, but it was highly revealing.
Initially it is mentioned that the footage is all “…content captured on PC emulating the PS5 experience.” That statement alone says enough, but when combined with Takai’s words about the game in the PlayStation Blog (“…it may still be some time before we can get the game into your hands”), then it means we’re in for a long wait. Some may argue that Square Enix could have waited until the game is closer to release before announcing it, although it can also be said that there mere confirmation of its existence is enough to generate quite a few PS5 sales.
