Elite Dangerous is about to undergo a massive change. This year, the game will get its “Odyssey” expansion, an update that will fundamentally change the game’s core.
“We will move into a new era of Elite Dangerous,” the game’s developers, Frontier Developments, explains, and they are not wrong.
Since the original game in 1984, the core premise has been all about being solely in the cockpit of a spaceship, fighting, trading, and exploring your way around the galaxy. Odyssey will take that experience one step further and allow players to fight, trade, and explore on foot. Some players can even experience Odyssey without ever getting into the pilot seat.
Commonly referred to in the community as ‘Space Legs’, it has been one of the most highly requested features. It puts the game’s billions of star systems with hundreds of thousands of exoplanets and thousands of settlements and space stations in a whole new light.
