Kingdom of the Dead Review

A Stylized, not so scary, shooter

The FPS genre has become flooded with games that are either trying to be the next Doom Eternal or go the modern retro throwback route with a return to the 90’s era of “boomer shooters.” With Kingdom of the Dead, while it certainly has a unique look, the gameplay sadly cannot keep up.

Hand Drawn Horror

The story finds us having to investigate major sites where the dead have risen and it’s up to us, our guns, and a talking sword to put them back down. The visuals are stylized with a hand-drawn aesthetic. Some of the outdoor environments look very well done, but this look does bring with it some problems that I’ll talk about in a minute.

Gameplay is all about exploring levels for weapons, finding any important items, and dealing with the boss. The game does feature multiple difficulties that add on additional objectives like classic shooters such as Goldeneye or Perfect Dark.

Despite how chatty your sword is, you want to rely on your other weapons whenever possible to deal with the different types of undead. If you’re hoping for persistence of some kind, Kingdom of
