Forgiveness is something I have struggled with in recent years. Whether it was overcoming a difficult relationship or learning to let go of many wrongs I felt had been committed against me, it has taken me a long time to realize that it’s hard work.

Though time passes, we bear the scars from such challenges. On September 4th 2018 we all discovered this after purchasing our copies of Destiny 2: Forsaken. This campaign unleashed a chaotic narrative full of emotional tear-jerking roller coasters, deep thought, and hours of riveting gameplay.

I along with many others were forced to deal with choice and the consequences of the actions we take, not just in playing a game but in real life too. There are only two words in the whole of the Destiny community that can stir up those who care the least about the story… and that name is Uldren Sov, sister to Queen Mara Sov of the Awoken people.

He took our precious Cayde-6 with a smile and laughter on his face. Who knew it was possible to be brought face to face with the desire to take revenge (or some semblance of it at least). This was no small thing; Cayde-6 was “THE” Hunter of Hunters.

He was a wisecracker, he had to have the last word and was the anti-hero you never knew you wanted until you caught a glimpse of him on screen.

Cayde is gone now, long gone. Three years have passed and in that time the Traveler (a mysterious spherical para-causal entity associated with the Light) did something no one saw coming. It resurrected Uldren Sov as a Guardian! A guardian, of all things! But Uldren has no recollection of who or what he is, complete memory loss. Convenient right? Well, maybe. The truth is: forgiveness is a difficult thing and I understand, I endured bullying for all of my educational life. Does that make them innocent? No! But it doesn’t mean people when given the chance can learn or change their ways.

What does that mean?

Unlike you or me, Uldren Sov was under the influence of Riven — the last Ahamkara and wasn’t in control of his own actions, we have a choice no matter what we are influenced by. We can decide to love others, help our neighbours, buy someone a gift, or simply tell someone that you love them, and you are here for them. The Destiny universe is brimming with limitless possibilities.

Will you choose to love instead of condemning? Or will you take the easy road? Because when the Guardian made the choice to go after Uldren, it led to the curse on the Dreaming City and the Pyramids of Darkness moving into our solar system.

So I ask you again. What will you choose?
