When I say the word Nintendo, what comes to mind? Is it Mario? The original NES? Maybe it’s the Virtual Boy. There are so many incredible products and games, it can be difficult to sum up the Nintendo experience with just one of their works. However, for me, it’s the quintessential handheld experience that sums Nintendo up perfectly.

Iconic. I know that word gets thrown around a lot. But some products truly are elevated to iconic status, and deservedly so. The Polaroid Camera. The Sony Walkman. The Apple iPod. All iconic in their own respect, all pioneers of user-centric product design. The Game Boy, in all its 8-bit monochrome glory, deserves a place amongst those product greats. Over 118 million units in the hands of gamers. I can think of no greater piece of silicon and plastic that epitomizes just how radical the ‘90s could be.
