What Happened to Alien Hominid?

The once-popular flash game soared to astronomical heights in the early 2000s

There was a time for kids of the ‘90s where flash games were the ultimate way to blow off steam, long before smartphones and tablets. That’s where I discovered Newgrounds and the treasure trove of flash games that awaited me.

One game, in particular, has stuck with me for almost two decades, and that game is Alien Hominid. The side-scrolling shooting game drew inspiration from the games of the past such as Contra but added a new element of fun.

Released around the same time as the popular cartoon Invader Zim, the cartoony alien graphics resonated with kids like myself who were coming home from school and wanted something quick and fun to play.

Between Alien Hominid and MySpace, my afternoons were taken up for hours at a time. But Alien Hominid was so popular that it managed to spawn console releases as well, and the franchise seemed to be on the cusp of greatness.

There is word that a new Alien Hominid game is finally in development 14 years later, but let’s first look back on this great…
