GHOST IN THE SHELL looks pretty awesome
Warning: Also contains Takeshi Kitano
As a big fan of the anime, not so much the manga, I was very very very wary of a live action adaptation. Much in the same way as the troubled AKIRA we keep getting threatened with.
However, with a swoop of a trailer, assurances that Rupert Sanders is heading the right direction come to the fore.
Here’s the synopsis:
A cyborg (Scarlett Johansson) leads an elite task force to battle dangerous criminals and extremists.
There are visuals here that I don’t think have been seen in a big budget film before. The robot spider-women, the future Tokyo, the fusion of tech and flesh. The last few frame drops on the trailer remind me very much of TETSUO (read that article here), which is very encouraging.
Apart from that, there are scenes that look very similar to the anime, which can be no bad thing.
We also see glimpses of Michael Pitt as possibly Batou; and Takeshi Kitano whom I was totally unaware was in this but have brought feelings of hope that this will be good.
GHOST IN THE SHELL is coming to the UK on 31st March 2017
