By the dint of augmented reality in education, galaxies and volcanoes take form within the confines of four walls of a classroom.

The world changed on 11th March, 2020 when WHO officially declared COVID-19 as a pandemic. However, it’s a commonplace fact that the ongoing plight has shaken the very foundations of humanity. Everything has been disrupted. The definition of education is gradually changing for youngsters and the college-going populace.

According to Technavio, prior to the pandemic, statistics had predicted that the e-learning market in the U.S. “will have grown to $6.22 US billion between 2017 and 2022.”

Online mode now, has completely replaced the traditional, and students, across nations, belong to a digital medium now. Needless to say, AR has upped the game here. There exists quite a number of augmented reality examples as pioneers in augmented reality for education.

Lifeliqe is a platform that has been offering completely interactive digital sessions on science within classrooms, an instance of augmented reality for education in practice. They’ve been using AR, VR and MR to create lifelike renditions, thereby fascinating eager students. Undeterred by the current situation of the world, augmented reality is taking the lead in education systems. It has created a remote learning app where AR and 3D models replace books.

The human muscular system in an augmented reality experience, how does that sound?

AR has a lot of scope to mitigate formal education now and is already leaving footprints in terms of a prismatic augmented reality experience. Pre-recorded video lectures are functional, but what about awe and interaction? How about the fabled augmented reality dinosaur rampaging around?

Take for example, Zookazam, the app. It allows school children to enjoy wildlife in an augmented simulation, where creatures crop up with the sound of their natural calls to suit. Necessary information of the Animal Kingdom is displayed accordingly.

Notice how these augmented reality examples have snowballed fun with education for the impressionable age?

Microsoft HoloLens

If we move onto the next austere level, Microsoft HoloLens have been embraced with general praise by medical college students as well as practitioners. These HoloLens use the concept of Mixed Reality (a digital world and real world utopia, where one can interact and manipulate both the environments) so that the best of AR can be harnessed; not merely by viewing projections but also rubbing elbows with them.

Microsoft’s HoloLens — Mixed Reality

Using certain augmented reality apps, like HoloPatient and HoloHuman, medicine has been covering new milestones. The former gives rise to ‘holographic standardised patients’ in real-world which gives students a hands-on trial on how to deal with a disease or an emergency. HoloHuman, on the other hand, is El Profesor on anatomy, which uses 3D models to instruct, instead of cadavers.

Key takeaways:

● Easy to comprehend

● Enjoyable

● Engaging

● Fosters personal development

● Interactive

● Interesting

● Uninterrupted flow of knowledge

It is not hard to fathom that augmented reality in education will radicalize the system even more. AR’s pedagogy is extremely enticing and enlightening. Be it a toddler or a scholar, AR is bound to attract eager learners.
