As part of the June Wave Pool with Lens Protocol, we’re thrilled to release an open alpha for the Superfluid Checkout Widget and Checkout Widget Builder: our free, open-source resources that enable merchants to accept crypto subscriptions and donations in Superfluid streams.

Although these resources are still in development, we believe web3 developers participating in this month’s Wave Pool can put them to great use as they build innovative projects that blend decentralized subscriptions and social!

In this article we’ll explore everything that’s available in the public alpha version, how web3 developers can start building with it for the June Wave Pool, and what’s coming next.

Superfluid Subscriptions: Open Alpha Overview

We’ve completely open-sourced the codebase for Superfluid Subscriptions, making it possible for developers to dig into our recommendations for structuring clear subscription UIs as well as how to handle the contracts and transactions involved.

Checkout Widget

The Checkout Widget demonstrates a clean pattern for subscription UX in web3 using Superfluid, including all the core web3 interactions needed.

  • It’s minimally-opinionated code, and uses the latest wagmi and viem under the hood
  • It supports all Superfluid tokens and networks by default
  • It automatically becomes a 1-click checkout if the user holds Super Tokens
  • It can be styled as a widget, a full page view, or a modal itself
  • Fonts, shapes, colors are all customizable

You can take a look at the widget on our GitHub here.

Checkout Widget Builder

The Checkout Widget Builder is a no-code solution to customize the checkout widget to your brand and products.

  • You can adjust everything about your checkout widget’s look and feel, from colors and typefaces to layout and product details
  • You can customize a checkout design directly from our website, or you can host the builder UI yourself
  • You can export the product and style configuration to IPFS and use our demo checkout hosting, or save a JSON to use in your own hosted checkout

You can also try the widget builder here.

🚧 Note: The Checkout Widget Builder is still under construction and will be updated with a fresh new look shortly.

Build With Superfluid Subscriptions and Lens

The June Wave Pool is an excellent opportunity for builders to experiment with Superfluid Subscriptions and Lens while competing for juicy prizes!

With Superfluid Subscriptions, web3 builders can monetize products and services in an accessible and scalable way, facilitating consistent income over time. Moreover, it’s an excellent tool for token-gated communities looking to monetize content and experiences in a fair and engaging manner, as well as businesses looking to mitigate de-platforming risk by owning their payment infrastructure.

As we move towards a production-grade release, we aim to further expand our subscription toolkit’s usefulness for web3 developers with webhooks & APIs, additional extension points, and enhanced configurability — as well as more merchant-specific features like a management dashboard, tagging, and further product metadata — to pave the way for a rich ecosystem of financially-sustainable web3 products.

Best of luck in this month’s Wave Pool, builders! If you have any questions about how to build with Superfluid Subscriptions, be sure to reach out to our team on Discord. We’re here to help you with your project every step of the way 💪
