“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

My childhood Foot Locker, the place that introduced me to the business and culture of footwear, Chicago, IL.

Today marks a very special moment in my journey from the Southside of Chicago to the South Bay of San Francisco. Today, we announce something that has been in the making since 1994. A partnership between a boy who grew up to live his dream and an organization that played a fundamental role in helping to provide access, awareness and a genuinely unique connection to sport and youth culture for so many of us who grew up in the ‘90s.

January 3rd, 2019, will forever be remembered at Super Heroic as the day we officially announce to the culture that we will be partnering with Foot Locker Inc. to provide award-winning innovative products, creative content via Phase Five and transformative Hero Day experiences to children all over America and, one day, across the globe. This partnership will involve both a $3m direct investment, led by the creative and analytical Vlad Estiverne (Strategic Investments, Foot Locker Inc.), and hands-on support in their role as an official board observer and brand advisor to Super Heroic, and our various strategic partners.

So much of my journey has been centered around the central theme of “spontaneous joy”. Seeking happiness and purpose has never been about public notoriety nor has it been about the obtainment of clout.

I simply want to create; and Super Heroic has become the vehicle by which my passion to serve the creative youth, amplified by the collective aspirations of a world-class team of leaders, thinkers and doers allows us to truly begin to establish ourselves as a formidable presence.

We are a purpose-driven company, one that is dedicated to the protection and amplification of a play culture that is focused on building stronger children, rather than fixing broken adults.

We are not here to simply capitalize on a grand market opportunity. We are here to radically lead the wave that is so desperately needed and that is critically absent from the culture. We possess and display a sincere desire to focus our efforts, talents and innovation on the preservation and advocation of play.

Iconic Designer & Playscape visionary, Isamu Noguchi once said, “The best is that which is most spontaneous or seemingly so.” At its core, play represents an innocence through spontaneity that is not present in the modern performative culture that dominates so much of childhood today.

Likes, follows and views have become the social currency that our children believe contributes to the valuation of their digital persona and self worth. Thus abandoning the notion that childhood is a time of unabashed discovery and magical self-actualization.

We believe that our children deserve better from us.

This is a time of reflection but more importantly this is a time for action. We must stand as one village to guard the innocence and wonder of childhood.

It is incumbent upon all of us to amplify and preserve the power of play for our children. By partnering with Super Heroic, Foot Locker has declaratively and firmly anchored themselves to the well-being of tomorrow’s Heroes, today.

We are humbled, honored and eagerly waiting to show you all what have in store for 2019.

The best time for action is now. Let’s take back play, together.

With honor and gratitude,

Jason Mayden
