As SuperNode Community is built on top of EOS, we want to guide our community members to set up an EOS wallet & account in order to fully participate in our ecosystem.

While the setup process may not be as straightforward as other blockchain systems, worry not. This guide aims to help you set up both the EOS wallet & account step-by-step, in under 10 minutes.

There are three separate parts to this guide:

  1. Setting up an EOS wallet using Scatter to generate EOS Public & Private keys
  2. Assigning your EOS Public keys to an EOS account
  3. Configuring the EOS account with Scatter wallet

After following all these steps, you would have successfully set up your EOS account which supports functions such as funds transfer, voting, and receiving EOS-based tokens (e.g. SNCT).

PART 1: SETTING UP AN EOS WALLET USING SCATTER

There are several EOS wallets in the market but for the sake of this demonstration, we will be using Scatter as it is easy to use and widely adopted by the EOS community. Scatter is a Google Chrome extension, so you will need to download Chrome here if you are not currently using Chrome browser.

  1. Go to Google Chrome extension — Scatter page here and click ‘Add to Chrome’

2. Click on the Scatter logo on the top right corner of Google Chrome

3. Set a password of your choice & click ‘Create New Scatter’

4. Write down the Mnemonic and keep all 12 words in a secure location

5. Click ‘Skip Basic Setup’

6. Click ‘Key Pairs’

7. Click ‘New’

8. Generate the key pair by following the steps below:

(1) Input a name you like

(2) Click ‘Generate Key Pair’. After this step, both the public key and private key will be visible

(3) Click ‘Copy’ and save both keys in a secure location

(4) Click ‘Save’

9. Key pair is live

10. Repeat Steps 7–9 to create another key pair

An EOS account can be configured with different keys corresponding to different permissions. In EOS, owner and active permissions are standard permissions in every account. Therefore, in this step, we will create one more key pair for active permission. After you repeat steps 7–9, you should be able to see the following:

PART 2: ASSIGNING YOUR EOS PUBLIC KEYS TO AN EOS ACCOUNT

After you have obtained the public keys from Scatter, the next step is to set up the EOS account. There are two recommended ways:

(1) Ask a friend who has an existing EOS account to create one for you

(2) Use an EOS account-generating tool

In this guide, we will show you how to create an EOS account using the second option. We recommend using EOS Account Creator which is straightforward and supports multiple payment options.

To set up the account, 4KBs of RAM is required. You will need to pay a small one-time fee in EOS during the setup. However, unlike Ethereum where there is a fee for every transaction, there are no subsequent transaction costs for EOS after the account is set up.

  1. Go to EOS Account Creator and click ‘Get Started’

2. Choose an account name

The following requirement should be observed for getting your EOS account name: (1) exactly 12 characters consisting of (2) lower case characters, and (3) digits up until 5

3. Provide both owner and active public keys

ATTENTION: Only public keys will be needed for the EOS account setup. NEVER send your private keys to anyone

4. Payment

EOS Account Creator is a handy tool which supports all popular payment options. Among them, using EOS from an exchange account is naturally the cheapest choice.

5. Follow these instructions to settle the payment

If you are settling payment using EOS, the remaining balance after paying for RAM and staking will be credited to your account.

6. You should see a confirmation in less than one minute after payment completion

7. Go to EOS Block Explorer to check your account status

As we are using a tool to help with the account creation, it is important to check for accuracy. The best way to do this is to review the EOS blockchain directly via EOS Block Explorer.

(1) Go to EOS Block Explorer and input your EOS account name

(2) Check your remaining balance and account status

(3) Scroll down and click ‘Account Permissions’. Double check if the public keys are correct.

PART 3: CONFIGURE THE EOS ACCOUNT WITH SCATTER WALLET

After you have created your EOS account and checked the blockchain explorer, you can configure the EOS account with your wallet.

  1. Open your Scatter and click ‘Identities’

2. Click ‘Edit’

3. Under ‘Account’, choose your active key pair

4. Click ‘Import’

5. Choose ‘your_eos_account_name@active’ and click ‘Use Selected Account’

6. Click ‘Save’

7. Click the circle to check the EOS balance in your account

CONGRATULATIONS! If you have come this far, your account is now successfully configured and you can perform most functions with EOS and receive SNCT in due course.
