Lucas, Co-founder of Supervillain Labs, outlines his vision with the new venture and its connection to the entertainment shift
Hi, My name is Lucas Jeonghwan Ko, Co-founder of Supervillain Labs.
Having experienced my journey in both Web2 and Web3 gaming, I’ve witnessed the evolution of the gaming industry firsthand and view Web3 gaming as a natural progression for gamers. What seemed somewhat visionary in the past few years is now accelerating at an increasingly rapid pace.
Today, I want to share Supervillain Labs’ perspective on Web3 gaming, as well as our team’s vision for this era.
The evolution of gaming and entertainment
The 2023 League of Legends World Championship finals surpassed a landmark viewership, attracting over 100 million simultaneous viewers worldwide. This significant milestone underscores the evolving nature of gaming, transcending beyond mere gameplay to become a source of admiration for players’ skills and strategies.
It signifies the creation of new content through secondary works inspired by the game, further expanding into community building within the game’s ecosystem and the trading of items. This development indicates a broadening scope for gaming, where it becomes a multifaceted platform for interaction, creativity, and commerce.
With these changes unfolding, the need for game studios to adapt their methods of creating and delivering content to match the evolving landscape is more critical than ever. This is exactly why our journey of innovation continues at Supervillain Labs.
Supervillain Labs — Linking the gaming content and user community in the shortest
Supervillain Labs is a game studio founded with the objective of creating the shortest possible link between game content and user networks. In an era where new technologies rapidly connect supply and demand, as well as people to each other, our society is transitioning into a densely connected contraction society. In such a society, a network of various connections is established, where individuals at the heart of this network become brands with their own influence.
Therefore, we aim to transform the game creation and testing process into something everyone can be a part of, building user networks right alongside our community. This leads to developing new games where being part of the community actually shapes the game itself.
In this vibrant ecosystem, everyone has the chance to build and grow their own brands, aiming for a place where the time and effort they invest come back to them as rewards. This approach doesn’t just make games; it builds a deeply connected, active community of players.
By quickly releasing playable builds and incorporating feedback from the community into the development and testing of subsequent versions, both the development team and the community engage in a process of mutual trust.
Throughout this process, the practice of rapidly unveiling play builds serves a dual purpose: it incorporates community feedback and fosters an inclusive environment where both developers and community members actively engage in the game’s development and testing.
This collaborative effort not only enhances gameplay and service quality but also builds a foundation of trust between the developers and the gaming community.
Moreover, this journey leads to the creation of a dedicated fandom. In this symbiotic relationship, both creators and fans experience the game’s rapid improvement, highlighting the tangible benefits of their collective input and collaboration.
Expanding the boundaries
Turning a single game into a successful piece of gaming content and a thriving intellectual property requires a significant investment of time and effort. However, the key to true success lies in finding and engaging the right community and users who will not just play, but also become an integral part of the game’s world.
As we explore the realm of Web3 games and the ecosystems around them, one concept stands out: interoperability — Yet, the critical question we always come back to is, ‘Why do this with blockchain technology?’
We see countless ideas and marketing strategies start with “What if we can see…,” but the essence boils down to whether these actions can genuinely engage our potential customers and strengthen our fan community’s bond.
Our approach doesn’t stop at Web3; we’re actively preparing collaborations with various partners across the Web2 spectrum. These collaborations are designed not just for surface-level engagement but to weave deeper connections and expand our community strategically.
Gaming’s journey into the Web3 era is just beginning.
We’re excited to move forward with our fan community, aspiring to evolve into a comprehensive ecosystem.
We have a lot in store, including new titles and initiatives for our community. Stay tuned for more detailed stories and updates in our upcoming team articles.
So.. Let’s build the Supervillains together!
