It’s all upon us what we decide in our personal and professional life. Sometimes, Life gives us options irrespective of whether the options are hard or easy, we have to choose and work with them. Most of the time fear of choosing persists in our minds. In our deep inside, many voices are telling us to choose against our natural intuition, which often leads us towards a dilemma. If we just know a little bit more about our fears, we can be a better decision-maker.

Fearing about something is natural. Business icons like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs also have dealt with the fear of decision making.

Elon Musk once said, “People shouldn’t think, I feel fear about this and therefore I shouldn’t do it. It’s normal to feel fear. If you just accept the probabilities, that diminishes fear.”

Elon Musk shared with surprising candor in a recent conversation with Sam Altman of Y-Combinator. One of the Biggest Failures Musk faced which compels you to think:

  • In 2006 Elon Musk launched the first rocket and the 1st explosion occurred.
  • In 2007 launched the second rocket and 2nd explosion occurred.
  • In 2008 a third rocket launched, a third critical failure occurred, which bought both Tesla and SpaceX on the brink of bankruptcy.

“Failure is also an option”

Yes, there is always a probability of failure. when we toss a coin there is only a 50% probability of winning, but we never fear tossing a coin before any Game.

A few among us suffer from the problem of Decidophobia. If you are curious to work as a well-established Businessman you should overcome the problem of Decidophobia.

The term Decidophobia was coined by Princeton University philosopher Walter Kaufmann in which he talks about: “irrational fear of decision making”. Sometimes in normal life, it is difficult for some people to choose what to wear and what to eat? For running a company, you need to overcome the fear of decision making to some extent.

“In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.— attributed to Theodore Roosevelt (26th president of the United States from 1901 to 1909)

American actor and rapper Will Smith overcame the fear of heights. He did skydiving in Dubai and he admitted while stepping out to the plane “In one second, you realize it’s the most blissful experience of your life,” he said in an interview with Goalcast. “You’re flying, there’s zero fear. You realize at the point of maximum danger is minimum fear. Why were you scared in your bed the night before? What do you need that fear for?”

According to Will Smith once you Stepped out of your comfort zone there is no reason to fear. It only just ruins your day. The best life experience is on the other side of terror. On the other side of your maximum fear are all of the best things in life.

“Fear is not real. The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that do not at present and may not ever exist. That is near insanity. Do not misunderstand me, the danger is very real but fear is a choice.” ― Will Smith

Conclusion

The fear of making a decision is the result of fearing to make a mistake, the truth is, the fear of mistakes has a greater impact on you than making a mistake” — Bob Proctor (Author of “Art of living”)

Bob Proctor clarified that there is no fear of decision-making rather the fear of making mistakes. We have to develop the courage to decide. The decision is conveyed as a response to the situation. Our enthusiasm and eagerness for that thing decide whether the results are good or atrocious. The facts, data, and experiences we collect while making decisions demolish our fear to some extent.

In the end, we can take home the following line: Fear is just a thought with a question mark. It is all on you how you answer the question.
