Newfoundland and Labrador’s population is aging rapidly. In fact, 31% of the population is expected to be 65 years and older by the year 2040.

In an age-friendly community, the policies, services and structures related to the physical and social environment are designed to help seniors “age actively.” In other words, the community is set up to help seniors live safely, enjoy good health and stay involved. [Source: Government of Canada]

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador supports building age-friendly communities and recently announced funding for 16 communities/organizations to complete projects in support of age-friendly communities and promote inclusive and stigma-free social connections.
