Thank you, Catherine!
The team at NL SUPPORT, Quality of Care NL and CAIR are wishing long-time Director of the Unit, Catherine Street, a fond farewell as she begins her retirement.
Catherine first began working at Memorial in 2008 with Dr. Proton Rahman and the Population Therapeutics Research Group, following a career as a pharmacist and health services manager in the UK. In 2014, she helped establish the Newfoundland and Labrador SPOR SUPPORT Unit (NL SUPPORT) as part of the Government of Canada’s Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR).
Catherine guided the Unit through its first phase, helping to establish a solid foundation for future work and to build a culture of patient-oriented health research at Memorial University. She also led the Unit’s transition to phase two of the SPOR, with a focus on building a learning health and social system in Newfoundland and Labrador.
While we cannot begin to list all of Catherine’s professional accomplishments over the years, we do wish to highlight her recent work as a member of the Executive of Health Data Research Network (HDRN) Canada. Catherine chairs HDRN’s Public Engagement Working Group which works to ensure the meaningful engagement of the public in its overall work and goals — a role Catherine will continue in as she transitions to retirement.
In her retirement, we’re sure Catherine will continue to devote much of her time to volunteer efforts with Beagle Paws Rescue and the Champney’s West Heritage Group, as well as other passions such as gardening and running.
As Catherine’s colleagues, the staff and partners of NL SUPPORT, Quality of Care NL and CAIR wish her much enjoyment and fulfillment as she heads into this new phase in life. Her leadership, positive attitude and mentorship will be sorely missed. Thank you, Catherine, for your many years of dedication and hard work. Congratulations!
