Patient Oriented Research Grants: 2018 Awardees

The NL SUPPORT Patient-Oriented Research Grants competition has been an unqualified success, not only in attracting new projects in patient-oriented research, but also in raising awareness of POR across the jurisdiction, increasing capacity in methodology via our POR bootcamps, and making researchers aware of the supports and services we offer.

Every round attracts applications from investigators around the University, and are proud to support teams in every field with a stake in improving patient outcomes. This year, we received applications from:

Awardees include not only projects from more traditional academic teams located here in St. John’s, but also projects from from the West Coast of Newfoundland and from Labrador.

Hall, Amanda (Primary Health Care Research Unit, Faculty of Medicine)

Using mixed methods to assess upskilling physiotherapists to implement the evidence-based Back Skills Training Program into routine practice: a pragmatic cluster randomized controlled trial and interview study

Pike, April (School of Nursing)

The Development of Strategies to Foster Awareness and Accessibility of Services for Seniors Living with Hearing Loss in the Province of NL

Pittman, Dawn (School of Nursing, Grenfell Campus)

The Determinants of Nutrition Influencing Community-dwelling Older Adults living in Western NL: Community Engagement and the Role of Nursing Practice

Pollock, Nathaniel (Labrador Institute)

The time is now: Linking evidence to action for a comprehensive approach to suicide prevention in Newfoundland and Labrador

Other Outcomes:

Until a second round of funding for the SUPPORT Unit is confirmed in 2019–2020, the POR grant program will not continue, but in it’s place we have launched our Development Grants program. The 2018 competition has closed, but you can check out the guidelines here.

Congratulations to all of our winners! We’re all looking forward to making healthcare better together for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
