MLS in Austin Meetup: Sunday, 1/29/17
Join us at Haymaker on Sunday, January 29th at 1:00pm for the first of many MLS in Austin meetups in 2017. With momentum, interest, and membership building, we wanted to start creating more opportunities to get together and for more people help shape plans for the movement and group.
Haymaker is one of the most popular locations in Austin to watch soccer and is home to many local supporters groups. We chose this location for this first meetup because of their strong support of the Austin soccer community. The food is great too!
After the meetup, stay and join the American Outlaws: Austin Chapter at 3pm for the USA vs Serbia Friendly. If you haven’t already, we encourage everyone to also become a member of AO:Austin as well and get involved with other supporters groups in town.
Meetup conversation topics include:
- Introductions
- History of the MLS in Austin movement
- Status update on the Austin USL team
- Why MLS will ultimately come to Austin instead of San Antonio
- Conversations with some guest speakers
- Discussion on how to successfully grow an MLS/USL supporters group in Austin
- How/If to reengage disaffected former-Austin supporters due to the history of local soccer and/or challenges adapting to changing soccer landscape
- Conversation on goals, plans, and events for the group in 2017
- Question and Answer on other topics
- Set some next steps and actions
- USA vs Serbia Friendly with AO:Austin.
A part of our growth, we’re also looking to put together a small organizing committee to help execute the goals and plans of the group, assisting with things like:
- Promotion and marketing
- Information research
- Recruiting and outreach
- Events
- Community involvement
- Civic and business engagement
- Ambassadors to and representatives from other local soccer supporters groups and soccer associations
- and to be Supporter representatives and advocates with the Austin ownership group
This committee will mostly communicate online and periodically meet in-person.
