Our Last Words on the Manchester Derby from Houston
Jul 21, 2017 · 2 min read

A group of members attended the first Manchester Derby in Houston on July 20th, 2017. The Reds won 2–0. Here’s some parting thoughts:
- 🙇 Thank you to the victorious MUFC fans for letting us crash in their section and OneUnited USA for hosting us.

- 💈 We’re looking forward to seeing Justin “The Smash” Simmons’ new hair as the loser of The Throw-In team bet.
- 🎤 Manchester City and United fans have a great chant set list. We could learn some things. Although they could have benefited from some capos helping to coordinate the sections.
- 🏟 Over 67-thousand people attended the first time these teams played each other outside of the UK. It’s unfortunate that those 67k people weren’t cheering from Austin instead. Not to knock Houston — they put on a fine event in a great stadium – but everywhere we saw the word “Houston” on a scarf, promotional poster, news article, etc. – it was hard not to think about these references saying “Austin” instead and the opportunity the city lost. We already went into detail on this in our “Let’s Talk About Stadiums and UT: Possibly the Worst Soccer Fan in Austin” article, but know that we’re doubling-down on our promise to continue to work with local officials, investors, and supporters to ensure Austin, Texas is never again denied a chance to bring great soccer to town.
It was a great match to behold!
We look forward to more road trips, more events, and ultimately enjoying matches together supporting our own team and in our own stadium.
Thanks to everyone for their support!
