Gold coast will start soon and we bring this great news. The FST model will show its first results for the Fantasy Surfer game in the opening of the 2017 season.

The calculation needs some improvements to perfectly match the rules of the game. The main difficulty for us is the price of the surfer. We have actually no historical data about this variable. For this reason we decided to make projections not considering the cash limit. Would you pick those same surfers if you had unlimited cash at the game? Let’s see what the machine picks are for Gold Coast.

Mick Fanning — $5,500,000

  • Average Event Heat Score: 15.54
  • Winning Percentage at venue: 60%
  • Average FS Points at venue: 114

Mick has solid numbers not only at Gold Coast, but on almost all events on tour. He has the best average heat score of the venue (tied with Parko). The surfer always make incredible heats. High scores and high winning percentage project him to the top of the super 8. And for sure, at that price I guess almost everyone will pick him.

Adriano de Souza — $7,500,000

  • Average Heat Score: 14.41
  • Winning Event Percentage at venue: 59.26%
  • Average FS Points at venue: 129

The AEHS and Winning percentage could not put this surfer on the second spot. Adriano, however, has two semifinals and two quarterfinals over the last 5 years at Gold Coast. The surfer knows how to advance heats at the venue. His Average FS Points proves this fact, the surfer could never achieve this high standard by loosing early over the years.

Joel Parkinson — $8,000,000

  • Average Event Heat Score: 15.54
  • Winning Percentage at venue: 62.96%
  • Average FS Points at venue: 136

For me, the best surfer at Gold Coast. Parko has one of the best styles on tour and knows this wave better than anyone. He dominates the scene over here with the best AEHS, one of the best winning percentage and really high Average FS Points. Parko is the surfer you should definitely pick for this competition

Filipe Toledo — $8,000,000

  • Average Event Heat Score: 15.09
  • Winning Percentage at venue: 64.71%
  • Average FS Points at venue: 130

The best surfer on small waves has his spot on the best 8. The winning percentage of the surfer and the high Average FS points makes him a solid pick. The surfer won the event on 2015 and lost on the semifinals of 2016. The great momentum on the waves of the venue will give him the confidence needed to do well this year.

John John Florence — $12,500,000

  • Average Event Heat Score: 14.01
  • Winning Percentage at venue: 50%
  • Average FS Points at venue: 67

The stats of John John in the venue are one of the worst amongst the top 8. But pure stats are not the only variables around here, the surfer is living a great career momentum. On 2016 he had improved his stats on almost all venues. And for sure, that quarterfinals last year guaranteed his position over the best 8

Gabriel Medina — $11,000,000

  • Average Event Heat Score: 13.99
  • Winning Percentage at venue: 64.29%
  • Average FS Points at venue: 106

The numbers of Medina speak for themselves. Not the best AEHS but a really high winning percentage. The surfer knows how to win a heat. However, he has not passed rd3 since 2014 (the year he won the event). It is definitely a fact to be aware of.

Matt Wilkinson — $10,000,000

  • Average Event Heat Score: 13.97
  • Winning Percentage at venue: 60%
  • Average FS Points at venue: 120

That great appearance last year skyrocketed his stats. Everyone remember the perfect event he made, winning all heats surfed. But the surfer also has his consistency, getting beyond rd3 3 times on the last 5 appearances gives him an incredible Average FS Points.

Kolohe Andino — $10,500,000

  • Average Event Heat Score: 13.47
  • Winning Percentage at venue: 44.44%
  • Average FS Points at venue: 92

Another example of a surfer that is living an amazing phase on his career. That final on Gold Coast last year helped a lot the stats of this surfer. And, like John John, the surfer has also improved on almost all venues of the CT.

The super 8 total cost: $73,000,000

Being able to pick the surfers with no cash limit would be fun. And for sure, it is no guarantee of success. On 2016 six of those surfers passed rd3, we have seen really huge upsets and I guess this year won't be different.

I'm curious to see how many points the super 8 will make and how the machine will perform. For sure the model will be ready by the end of the season for the Fantasy Surfer game rules.
