The first event of the year was great and the return of Owen Wright was just amazing to watch. Our first super picks for Fantasy Surfer made 933 points. Five of the 8 choices advanced to quarterfinals. The only really upsets were Filipe Toledo and Mick Fanning.

Margaret River is not easy to predict. We just had three events and the quarterfinals have changed a lot amongst the years. Be ready to see some surprises.

We present you the super 8, the best combination of Past Position, Performance and Momentum.

John John Florence — $12,500,000

  • Event Average Score: 15.83
  • Event Winning Percentage: 63.64%
  • FS average points: 115

JJF has great stats at Margaret River. Several facts make him the best pick at this venue. The surfer has the best Average Score and a great winning percentage. He achieved a 2nd place at 2015 and is in a great momentum.

Joel Parkinson — $8,500,000

  • Event Average Score: 13.59
  • Event Winning Percentage: 61.54%
  • FS average points: 120

You might expect to see Joel a lot amongst the super 8. The surfer does great at most of the venues. He has one of the best combinations of Average Score and Winning Percentage at Margaret River. A quarter and a semi over the last three years makes Joel a great pick for this event.

Adriano De Souza — $7,750,000

  • Event Average Score: 13.2
  • Event Winning Percentage: 60%
  • FS Average Points: 144

Last year Adriano did really bad at the beginning of the season, was he resting after winning the world title? 2016 was the unique year that Adriano did not advance to rd4. The surfer has already won at 2015 a owns a solid winning percentage.

Julian Wilson — $8,000,000

  • Event Average Score: 14.81
  • Event Winning Percentage: 64.29%
  • FS average points: 129

The stats of Julian at Margaret River are great. No doubt he will perform well. He has the second best winning percentage of the venue (tied with Sebastian Ziets). The surfer made the finals last year and achieved the quarterfinal at 2015.

Sebastian Ziets — $7,250,000

  • Event Average Score: 13.49
  • Event Winning Percentage: 64.29%
  • FS average points: 143

Sebastian Ziets is the defending champion on the venue. The surfer has the best stats at "The Box". Over the last two years the surfer has improved a lot his numbers and achieved the third spot on FS average points. If he achieves a good result this year, he will become the surfer that makes more Fantasy Points at Margaret River.

Jordy Smith — $11,000,000

  • Event Average Score: 12.06
  • Event Winning Percentage: 50%
  • FS average points: 101

Jordy is amongst the surfers that have won rd3 twice over the last three years. Believe me, it's not easy to find surfers that have achieved this mark at Margaret River. You can add to the fact his great career phase. The surfer achieved the second place on last season and did well on Gold Coast.

Gabriel Medina — $11,500,000

  • Event Average Score: 12.51
  • Event Winning Percentage: 50%
  • FS average points: 89

Medina lost on rd2 at 2015, this fact has lowered his stats. On the other years, however, the surfer has always advanced to rd4. Add those facts to his great appearance on the first event of the season. The surfer is also in a great momentum.

Kelly Slater — $9,500,000

  • Event Average Score: 13.18
  • Event Winning Percentage: 58.33%
  • FS average points: 107

Taking 2016 out of discussion, Kelly has performed really great at the other years. If the surfer hadn’t lost on rd2 last year, would definitely be on the first spots. This year Kelly seems really motivated, his performance at Gold Coast was great. My expectations are high for him.

The super 8 total cost: $76,000,000

Margaret River has been an event full of upsets. We have seen Medina loosing on rd2 at 2015 and Kelly at 2016. There were very different scenarios over the last years and it is not easy to find surfers with great regularity at the spot. A surfer that had almost appeared on this rank was Nat Young, you should consider the surfer, given his actual price.

The season is just really competitive, let’s see the surprises for this event. You can get on our clubhouse and see if you perform better than our projections. We will try to pick the best amongst those super 8.
