We were very skeptical at this event, there were almost no records about Saquarema. The only data we had was from previous QS events that happened years ago. There was a huge possibility of a fiasco, but the opposite happened.

One of our versions got the best result of the year in terms of position. The performance version achieved the 3kº position, a very solid number for a prediction model.

Aside the fantasy results we have two major news this week: new features on our website!

1. FST Stat Rank

Stat Rank is a new feature to keep you updated on how the surfers are performing statistically. It is basically a summary of the surfer performance over the year. Two main variables come into play: the Year Average Heat Score and the Winning Percentage.

The rank is basic. If a surfer has the best Average Heat Score it achieves 50 points, if it has the worst it achieves zero points. The same thing goes to Winning percentage, the best achieves 50 points and the worst zero. The result is a sum of the marks from Average Heat Score and Winning percentage. So a surfer will only achieve 100 points if he has the best marks on the two variables.

The updated Men’s CT Stat Rank after Saquarema

John John Florence remains the surfer with best scores on CT. With those marks it will take a while for him to go below 100 points. There is also another surfer with 100 points: Barron Mamyia. He leads all records on the Men's Juniors. You can check the ranks from all events here.

2. Event Records

You can now see the results of Average Heat Score and Winning Percentage from all events from 2012 to 2017. You can give a fast check on Women's CT and Men's QS. It is possible to dive deep into the results and check some glorious events that happened.

Some great examples are:

  • Oi Rio Pro 2015: Filipe Toledo made a perfect event with huge numbers;
  • Fiji 2015: Owen Wright surfed two perfect heats;
  • One of the best is Tahiti 2016. Kelly Slater achieved the mark of 18.29 average heat score on the event.

That's it. Those are the news of the week. We are doing our best for delivering the best Surfing Statistics to you.

Tell us on Twitter your thoughts about those new features. We will love to hear a feedback and improve based on your opinion.
