2016 was a remarkable year for the young Hawaiian John John Florence. Winning the 2016 world title one event before the end of the season confirmed the great talent the surfer has. One fact that really calls the attention when comparing his numbers with other surfers is the score he imposes on heats.

Talking about waves from the 2012 season until now he has reached an AHS of 14.59 in 205 heats surfed. Just Kelly Slater has better stats (14.79 in 222 heats surfed). We can see the progression of his AHS compared to the overall CT

There is a great consistency in JJF numbers, but what have changed in 2016? With such great scores, what kept him from winning a world title? The heat winning percentage was the key, the surfer won 70% of the heats surfed this year. He has not lost on round2 and on round5 in 2016, this really marks a turning point on his career. One event before the end of the year and JJF has already won more heats than his 2014 season. The data of his winning percentage progression easily shows how great he performed at 2016

There is no doubt that in the next years JJF will reach the best AHS of the WSL. If the surfer maintains the winning percentage he has imposed this year, will be really hard for other surfers to beat him.
