Mercì France! Biscarrosse: another great spot for surf trippin in France

Our journey continues along another destination on the Atlantic coast of France. Next stop: Biscarrosse, a place where good surfing and simple life meet. Atmosphere is great here, you’ll find your zen between dunes and blue sea, and if you’re searching for post session relax time, well, it is the right place! Biscarrosse is a commune in the Landes department in Aquitaine, located between Mimizan plage and Lacanau, other two well known surfing spot. It is a cosy bike friendly city, with 50 km of cycles routes, surrounded by one of the Europe’s largest forest, and three cristal water lakes.

SPOT DETAILS

Biscarrosse-Plage is the typical exposed Atlantic beach break, with a lot of good sandbars, and a consistent reliability, that makes the spot surfable in summer too. By the way, swell consistency is better from December to March. Biscarrosse-Plage ideal swell directions are from NorthWest, West, SouthWest, and the spot gives its best with easterly winds. It is an all surfers level spot, that starts working from 1 meter and holds up to 2.5 meters, but as a lot of spots in this part of Atlantic Coast, usually closes out if the swell is too big. Due to sand movement that follows the flow, it favours right waves, especially with rising and falling tides. Good days offer several fast waves with hollow sections, but Biscarrosse-Plage is often crowded, so wake up early if you love line-up lonelyness.

SPOT TIPS

Another good reason to come early (we already told you about the crowd) is to have the good wind, because it often turns bad during the day. Biscarrosse-Plage has an easy public and istant access, but be carefull for the military zone, some rocket could fly over your head! You can check wave conditions from your car, in the Vivier parking, located in the northern access. Spot is really close to the city, so you have all kind of comforts, from restaurants to surf schools and accomodations.
