About Surfline Labs

Since Sean Collins first worked out how to get weather fax and predict southern hemisphere swells, surfers working for Surfline and Magicseaweed have been gathering ocean data, researching the latest modelling techniques and building tools to help us, and you, score more waves.

With developments in machine learning and the growth of our camera and sensor network there’s never been more going on in our engine room and we wanted to share that with you. A behind-the-scenes look at our surf science research and how it might impact the forecasts of the future. We want to open our doors to surfer scientists everywhere: hobbyists, forecast obsessives, wave chasers, ocean science academics and coders — to come and find out more about our data, models, cameras and code.
