Last week Surgery Academy presented it’s business case at I’M Sardegna, a recognized association which operates in Italy and responds to the Department of Public Administration of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. In that meeting we talked about the change of University in terms of accessibility and the new opportunities that technology and science offers. Our vision is that MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and Augmented and Virtual Reality will change the practical approach to learning and teaching. Seizing this opportunity, we we have set ourselves a mission: to create the best education experience to make medical students more successful in their career. Why start from surgery? Surgery is a branch of science that needs dexterity and skill, and it’s a discipline that changes every year. Students needs an accurate approach for improve their training. They can compare procedures, choose what to watch. We know that over 45% of Hospitals and Medical Schools suffer a loss of revenue and business to competitors, eroding patient satisfaction and a delay in professional growth of medical equipe. Talking about marketing, E-Learning/MOOC market size is worth over 50$B, with an annual growth of 8%. We have the goal of combine E-Learning market with Augmented and Virtual Reality, getting so an annual growth over the 25%. Our target are the over 5,500 hospitals (just in US) and over 120,000 students between US and Europe. Especially we address to the over 40,000 Residents and Interns in Surgery, building a great international knowledge network. We are also looking to enter in the Middle East Market, supporting the training of Western Asia’s students. Here are a few reasons why choose MOOCs and Augmented Reality:

  1. Employee motivation and satisfaction: medical students feel valued and able to grow and develop throughout their careers.
  2. Learning helps develop sound best surgical procedures aligned to organizational goals of hospitals and universities.
  3. Learning and change are linked – organizations will be able to respond to changes and adapt to an increasingly competitive (and ever-changing) market
  4. Students can improve their education experience and logistics, saving their money.
  5. Augmented Reality is a method of practical approach for to have access to extra content (medical imaging, vital signs and so on).
