The Twins

Her lips burned my consciousness to awakening.

I remembered the headaches I used to get when I would wake up from sleep, but it seemed so long ago since I had one of those. Not to mention that I've been “waking up” quite a lot lately.

She lifted her head off of mine and stared blankly into my eyes, right before she drew a big smile on her face and hugged me. They told me that I was out for about an hour. To me, it felt like ages have passed, it felt like this reality ceased to be mine. I did not think of “outside” and I had no perception of time. Other than the periodic knocking that lingered in the back of my head like a musician’s metronome ticking in a small dark room. A periodic reminder of the fact of existence, it was.

“Zusynoid, what happened to you?” Raigoth asked while taking my hand to lift me up. “I’ll tell you all about it later, for now, we have to go defeat the alien warlord. If we do not free this dimension of the oppression of these aliens, we will have a bigger problem.” I replied, dusting myself off and getting ready to move, “show us the way dragon.”

They could both see that I had changed. I am not panicking like I was when I had passed out earlier. There was a certainty in my tone they did not hear before. I had a purpose now, I had a target. My mind was flaying itself over the time wasted so I didn't linger too long. I started walking before the dragon could start talking. Syd walked behind me while Naxx and Raigoth walked at my sides.

“The alien warlord has taken that mountain top as his base of operations” Raigoth started, “there are two ways we could reach that mountain top, the first is flying but I would not be able to carry you both and there’s no saying what kind of anti-air defenses they have.” I stopped walking and looked at Raigoth “Then there’s no point in listing that option is there ? what’s the second one ?” I said mockingly. Raigoth was taken back by my offensive attitude but had let it slide. He could tell that I’m tunnel visioned on destroying that warlord. “The second path would be from inside the mountain,” Raigoth continued after a short pause “there is a upward spiraling path inside the mountain that only us dragons know about, but it is a long way up. It is called the Path of Stone and it is a magical path”. “How so?” I asked. “That path weighs your resolve, the heavier it is, the faster you’ll run the path.” Raigoth explained.

The mid-forest dirt path we were on led us to a large clearing. I stood there looking at that marvelous view. The huge mountain stood there, green and glamorous. A thick fog had covered it’s base. Through that thick fog, the entrance to the tunnel glowed red like the sunset would. Raigoth explained that it was he that had allowed us to see the tunnel. He explained that normally no one would be able to.

In the field, to the left, was a broken down one-man alien ship. I could hear faint voices coming from there. Voices speaking a language I could not understand. I didn't want to take any chances, I buffed up my exo-skeleton and swooshed —faster than I’ve ever — but what I saw there, was shocking.

Two fuzzy weird little alien “animals” where arguing, probably over who’s fault it is that the ship crashed. They looked exactly the same. Like a real living teddy bear. Short and stubby, all their body was covered with short black velvet-y fur except for their faces, which were covered with beige fur. Big black eyes and a very small mouth made them look like hug-able fluffy toys. One of them was stuck under some rubble from the crash while the other was trying to lift the rubble off of his companion. I shot streams of my green powers electrifying the rubble off of the creature. Shocked, they both stepped backwards and looked at me — eyes wide open.

“I am Zusynoid, nice to meet you” I said. Hardly grasping my language, one of them replies “I are ‘Ow’, `n dis be my twiny brooda ‘Iy’. We be on our looking to find you … Zus” Ow said, smiling at me. “What? who are you?” but I was not prepared for that answer.

Iy jumped in to explain “Zus, we be aliens too, but different from those invading your planet — we be maybe like smart like humans maybe. We are abandon warlord for help humans, our planet was also taken by dem. We be having dreamings, someone be telling us to find Zus — The Wizard. Someone be named Seriph. We can help you Zus.”

My mind and heart trusted the little furry fellows without question. They have made it clear that they wish to accompany me — something that Syd didn't like much, I could feel it. I sat down on the grass, crossing my feet and placing each hand on each of my knees as Raigoth and Naxx walk in from behind me. We all sat down as Iy `n Ow told us about their planet, how they are all born twins. Their existence depended on duality, and if one of the twins is to die, the other would follow instantly. That is only one of the bonds that tie those two. They told me that they are the last of their specie, and how the aliens had obliterated their planet in search for Gold.

At the sound of that I had made several connection in my head. At first I realized that all the alien equipment had some gold in them, secondly I remembered the nanobots that seemed to do nothing to harm us. At the thought Ow speaks to me — as though he could read my mind, “Those white nanobots, der job is to extract all the gold from your planet. When planet is void of gold, planet will lose the magic that holds it and collapse under it’s own pressure. We be needing to stop dem before they do dat.”

The twins asked me to join them in a ritual, a bonding ritual. They have asked if they may become my permanent companions. They too had no purpose before and I could relate. They also pointed out that they owed me their life. Iy explained that their powers have been drained while they were trying to escape which is why it was hard to remove the rubble off of him when they crashed, and had I not arrived in time, they would have both died.

They both sat facing me, one to my left and the other to my right. Their eyes glowed blue as did mine. What I saw next was impossible to describe. It was like my mind tunneled through both their minds at the same time. I could hear their thoughts, hold their anger, feel their pains and sufferings. It was a trance like no other I've experienced. No drug has ever gotten me this high before. Soon enough the trance cleared and that’s when I learned to use it functionally. Our eyes still glowing, but a bit fainter, they asked me to stand up and start walking. As they walked beside me —each looking to a different side— I could see all that they can see, other than what I could see myself. I understood the immensity of that ability, as I could now have a 360 degree field of vision. One of them looked back and while I walked forward I could see Naxx, Raigoth and Syd walkig behind us. We headed towards the red glowing entrance of the tunnel.

It was time to rid this dimension of those wretched aliens. And I had to do it fast because as Xzain had told me “There’s a lot to do still, and many years to conquer …”
