A Day In My Life As A Cult Member

5:00 AM

My alarm goes off. I immediately roll out of bed and walk over to my altar. This is where I “activate my soul star” each morning. It’s suppose to be the first thing we do. The folks who are hardcore even do it before getting up, the literal second they open their eyes. It’s about an 8-sentence mantra we say alongside a breathing technique.

Next, I pick up my breathing beads and sit in the proper position while I do 108 breaths. Then I move into my twenty minute meditation. This is followed by stretching.

Sometimes, I do morning pages. At other times, a “triangulation” practice replaces the breathing. It just depends on what Silver — the Teacher — is in to at the moment. Regardless of the practice, we have to do it everyday for at least 3 months. If we miss a day, we have to start over.

6:30 AM

I eat breakfast, make my smoothie and get everything I need for work ready to go. I have Tai Chi at 7:30, and have to rush out the door as soon as class is over for my 30 minute commute to work.

8:30 AM

I leave for work, feeling depressed and resigned. My job is boring and I hate it. Everyone else at the ashram is so creative and artistic. Some…
