How we plan to contribute to a healthy society and planet.

Just a little over a year ago, in February 2020, we launched our very first event at The Planet Life. Our goal was to provide anyone with an opportunity to take action for a more sustainable society and a healthier planet. To build momentum and pave the way for action-oriented individuals to connect, find a purpose, and drive a sustainable economy.

Over the last year, we’ve had the opportunity to take a step back. To think about what we believe in, and the things that are happening in our society. Today, we’re launching something new. For now, it’s a simple newsletter (and some more content like articles, podcasts, events).

But this is just the beginning. We believe in giving every individual the opportunity to make an impact beyond personal lifestyle choices. That’s why we’re building a solution-focused ecosystem around the global challenges we’re facing today. It’s time to unlock the world’s knowledge and turn a sustainable society into a reality.

It would mean the world to us if you could take a moment to continue reading and sign up for our newsletter. Every month we will focus on a different theme. Each newsletter includes topic-specific articles, job opportunities, and actions you could take. We put interesting people and projects in the spotlight. Our aim is to enlighten your inbox with a curated splash of inspiration. When you subscribe to our monthly splash of inspiration we’ll plant a tree on your behalf.

Why we are doing this

We Do Not Inherit the Earth from Our Ancestors; We Borrow It from Our Children — Ancient proverb

Climate change is the defining crisis of the next decade
The impacts of climate change add up to a planetary emergency that will include loss of life, social-geopolitical tensions, and negative economic impacts. We need to stay under 1.5°C to avoid the most catastrophic consequences like 250 million more climate refugees and rising sea levels. We’re on track to 4°C by 2100. 40 million people live in modern slavery. The world's poorest have contributed less than 1% of CO2 emissions, but are the most vulnerable to the impacts. Citizens are standing up for changes. Environmental injustice is increasing. Growing inequalities are separating society.

Society is ready to move beyond personal lifestyle changes & activism and is in need of a place that provides education and collaboration around our global challenges.

Where to start…
People are losing out on the ability to take action and contribute to a healthy society and planet due to the sheer complexity of global challenges we’re facing today. The scale and complexity make the urge to see it as someone else’s responsibility, leaving individuals with a feeling of powerlessness.

Connecting and collaborating is key
Organizations are working in silos. Meaning that global knowledge is being under-utilized. Businesses need to collaborate more and engage with civil society to bring solutions to the table and develop them into a new reality.

We’re facing a new economy
There is a growing movement where citizens are looking for purpose within their lives and the work they do. A place where they can cultivate new ideas. They find difficulties in taking that first step towards problem solving and entrepreneurship, to find a place to grow and leverage their passion.

To succeed in this new economy we’re in need of a platform that provides the infrastructure and enables citizens, game-changers, and new ventures to flourish.

What’s next?

We have an opportunity to accelerate talent as well as ideas. If you are looking for a place within the environmental impact space, want to advance your career, or learn the ropes to move the needle towards a just and sustainable society, join The Planet Life. We’re working hard to build our platform and provide a place to share insights, discover solutions and take action as a community. Our platform enables citizens to learn about the effects of climate change, the solutions we need to bring to life, and provides a way to be part of the journey towards a better future for planet and society.

By no means we are experts. But we would like to provide and highlight opportunities for people to be part of the shift towards a sustainable society. We aim to connect citizens to solutions and provide them with the knowledge needed to build a better future that is climate-resilient and regenerative. Together we can make a difference and change for the better.

While we grow towards a full platform offer, for now, we stick with celebrating a different environmental solution each month. But we can’t do this without you. So if you care about this planet, if you would like to understand more of the challenges we’re facing, or you’re looking for ways to contribute and bring some of the solutions to life, please subscribe and join us!

Everyone is welcome.
See you soon on www.theplanet.life and take care.
