I’m having trouble believing it, although it should have been apparent when the location of COP 28 was awarded to Dubai in UAE. What the hell?

. . .the man chosen by the UAE as president of Cop28 is the chief executive of Adnoc [the UAE’s national oil company]. Sultan Al Jaber is the first businessperson to serve as a Cop president, and being from an oil company is an extraordinary development.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that in the last two weeks, it has come to light that the COP 28 meeting would be used to do oil deals for increased distribution. This is a combined UAE and Saudi plan to pump crude to the poorer nations desperately needing answers and alternate energy sources. These are not solutions.

Here is an overview of where we are at COP 28 and an official climate correction schedule. The Guardian is following the rules and pretending that holding warming to 1.5 degrees C is still possible on the original schedule. None of this is possible any longer. We will pass 1.5 degrees in the next two years.

The official criteria acknowledge that holding to under 2.0 degrees of warming above preindustrial levels requires nearly all fossil fuel use to stop immediately, as the process will need to take years…
