Sustainable Energy and The Workplace

For this blog I will be reviewing class member Mason Lampka’s post in which he discusses the changes in labor. He talks about monopolies and the oil industry and how that has evolved over a couple hundred years. I chose to review this blog because I was interested to see what other research was found on the topic relating to sustainable energy.

Lampka points out oil industry giants like Rockefeller, who dominated the industry with his Standard Oil company. Lampka states “Since the fossil-fuel industry is declining as renewable energy is becoming more and more vital to the survival of our planet, clean energy companies will rise.” I found this quote to stand out because it shows that renewable energy is on the upcoming and fossil fuels are finally starting to head on a decline.

A change that he brought up was Elon Musk and his fully electric cars with the Tesla company. He says “this shows how there will be a change in industries and a change in workers in these industries.” I agree with this quote because during my research I also found that a change is necessary in workers in particular fields.

One thing I found interesting from Lampka’s post was the graph showing the capacity of coal factories in the world. Luckily the graph is predicting a decline in coal powered factories and optimistically predicted that by 2065 the number of coal factories was 0. If the coal industry really does follow the trend of the graph it would be a huge win for the sustainable energy sector and a big positive for mother nature.
