Low-Carb or Low-Fat: what would you try to lose weight?
A recent study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), evaluated whether weight loss was affected the type of calories a person is consuming.
Researchers divided their patients into two groups — those consuming healthy low carbohydrate diet vs. healthy low-fat diet. Research subjects received behavior modification interventions via small groups twice a month assisting them in understanding how to maintain their diet.
Over a period of 12 months 600+ individuals followed recommendations of the researchers.
Additionally, the scientists were interested in understanding if interactions between diet and genes as well as insulin secretion can affect their patients weight loss.
The results were almost identical in both groups demonstrating weight loss, waist line reduction and other benefits. The outcomes of this research suggests that behavior modification and quality of food consumed are the important factors in the patient’s weight loss.
