Great health benefits of playing soccer
As the hype builds for FIFA’s World Cup this summer in Russia, a recent review of studies explored the benefits of recreational soccer.
The British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM) published a review of 31 studies.
Researchers evaluated specific health benefits for recreational soccer players compared to other forms of exercises, such as moderate running, strength training, as well as inactivity.
Additionally specific benefits to blood pressure, body composition, lipid profiles and muscular fitness were looked at.
The results found recreational soccer as “ efficient and effective’’ when compared to other forms of exercise such Zumba and continuous running.
Researchers found that soccer players had better blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and more lean body mass when compared to inactive individuals, and better blood pressure when to compared to continuous runners.
