Nordex & More in Hamburg

During our time in Hamburg we visited the Nordex Factory where we got learn more about renewable energy and what the current challenges and breakthroughs in the industry have been. Furthermore, we got to learn more about the inner workings of the machines and even step inside a wind turbine. It was nice to be able to visualize how big each machine was and to also learn more not only about the inner workings of these energy producer but about what are the costs associated with making a machine, how long it takes, and what is the shelf life for each. I was particularly interested in how each blade was hand made from wood and were hard to recycle.

Hamburg proved to a be a lovely stop on our trip that was topped off with an amazing trip to visit the Philharmonic. I loved listening to the classic music and being immersed in beautiful building with all my friends. I want to try and go back to a Philharmonic show in the US now!

As I reflected upon my time in Hamburg it definitely felt like a port city with the vast array of canals and made me think of cities in the US like Boston. Although I don’t think I could see myself living in a place like Hamburg, I am glad that I had the chance to visit!
