Last week, an e-mail update on the purpose of funds was sent out and by mid this week we hit an auspicious donation milestone of $8888! What a coincidence. Huat ah!

70 people, $8888

With only 70 people reached, we decided to explore ways to reach out to more Alumni who have yet to hear of the campaign. We have a potential of 823 Alumni and we are FAR from it. If you’re reading this, please help to spread the memo!

Building Communication Channels

Before anything, we need to cover the basics: there needs to be a more effective way to contact everyone. So far, communication is via SUTD e-mail which some people do not check anymore. Hence, we’ve made a form to collect other contact details:

There’s also a spanking new Instagram handle: alumniofsutd Follow us there for bite-sized information.

Reaching Out with #throwbackSUTD

We realised that reaching out to all Alumni ourselves is pretty darn tough. So why not have a reason for others to help us reach out?

With this train of thought, we brainstormed on possible ways (even to the point of considering an MLM scheme) and spoke about our friends who we hoped we could reconnect with in future Alumni events. In the midst of the conversation, we drifted to talk about rebuilding the community and how we forged great friendships during our undergraduate days. That’s when it hit us… Did you know that the current batch of Alumni all experienced Dover?

Do you remember the things the pioneers did with that pioneer spirit?

Do you remember being cramped in that 9 person HDB flat?

Do you remember the beginning of DSBJ?

These questions bring out the feels we hope to keep with us as we build the association. The spark of excitement for new experiences and the special bonds between friends. They’ve become treasured memories that would last a lifetime.

So in that moment, a campaign called #throwbackSUTD was born. We hope that through this campaign, Alumni can reminisce their undergraduate days and tag their friends in old posts, while tagging the association (on Instagram or Facebook) too so more people know of it. Disclaimer: We’re not viral social media campaign experts. But, let’s try this!

With this, we’re bringing back the community. #throwbackSUTD #doverisnotover

Engage with Stories

Together with reaching out, we want to keep the current community alive. Hence, we’re going to be interviewing the Alumni who have donated on why they did! Maybe this would be interesting and could also help others to find their own reasons. Keep a lookout for this as it will be starting real soon.

That’s all the updates we have.

Leave a comment below if you have any more interesting ideas or people who you would like us to interview!

Love,

Your Fellow Alumni
