Continuing our dig through the Soundcloud warrens. Here is a look at retro-futurist Menopausal Hound Dog.

Bundled into five releases, we have a year of collected work. It was previously uploaded to Soundcloud and was downloadable for free. Now it is collected and offered for £2 for each of the five volumes on Bandcamp.

The work has been lightly Bandcamp mastered to be available in the usual variety of formats.

A few years ago, you’d have found Menopausal Hound Dogs work because an anorak friend religiously followed some print like Benbecula, Planet Mu, Staubgold or something like Kranky or Rephlex. The sort of insistent sleeve tugging you would not really appreciate until they’d made you a tape or burnt a CD.

It is strange post-guitar, guitar-laden future music that sounds as if it could be lost pieces of some Oliveros or Dockstader related peer as it does new, ahead of time and between worlds.

Old fashioned length pop music that has fallen out of a John Brunner novel.

Ranging beyond ambient, experimental and avant-garde to dystopian drum and bass murmurs. There is a wealth of sounds and shapes here and you would do well to check it out and throw some money at the artist. If only so that they can continue making fancy things from air and electricity.

My only complaint, is that some pieces could be longer. But then, is that not the wishful thinking about all the best pop music?

For further listening pleasure and curiosity, dug up especially for you, is an excerpt from a live set by underground recluses Housemaid and The Fear from their Sami Vaahterus’ “Skulls” exhibition gig. The first fourteen and half, fifteen minutes or so of this set is solely Menopausal Hound Dog work.
