Rolando Simmons - Yuo’re Life

Another artist discovered with the help of Soundcloud. I think…

It’s a good job the Sweden based Rolando Simmons released this acid laced braindance five track in February; as it will begin arriving properly, just in time for the first cracks of Spring.

Its Aphex Ochre veined drifting electronic melancholy that still manages to bubble and pop with the inexplicable primal hope of the monkey brain and it smacks hard of Sunny weather morning after dawn type tunes.

If we let them…if we get it to them in time…it’s possible more than one person will have a sort of middle distance spliff helped epiphany to this.

The release is $5 or $1 a track. Which is pretty fair for some really accomplished and tight electronica that also fringes the experimental. It is a release that drives in quality with each (seemingly) densely programmed track seeming to better the other.

While one could say that it owes a lot to those that came before. There is a confidence to the tracks that makes you wonder if this is not just another person under an assumed name.

It’s a genuine hard call between “Axis of evil”, “Sól” and “Dreamweave” as favoured tracks on the release. With “wifey’s Lush Pingu Plush” only out of the top running because it reminds me of something so much I lost a couple hours rummaging through the library. [Which, is not a bad thing, I’ll just be looking for that for weeks.]

Sól is a stand-out genre straddling track and I imagine it will find its way into bags or sets for the coming bright and dancy times.

I’ll definitely have to backtrack and check out Caoutchuo Recordings, an associated label with other releases by the artist.
