Copyright Registration Act 1957 governs and regulates registration & the matters related to that. Copyright Registration Process : -

Following is the process of Copyright registration in brief:

  • The applicant needs to apply in form IV online along with the requisite government fee.
  • The application shall be signed by an applicant and Advocate in whose favor Power of Attorney is executed.
  • Once the application is received by the registrar, it issues dairy number
  • A waiting period of 30 days is mandatory for any objections to be received
  • If the compliant is received, the examiner will intimate to both parties and call for further hearing.
  • After the expiry of 30 days, there is no objection received, the examiner will scrutinize the application, and after examining the same if no discrepancy is found, the extract will be forwarded to the registrar for entry in Registrar of Copyrights.
  • Once the objections are resolved, the application is approved by the registrar, and the Certificate of Copyright is granted.
  • Certificate of Registration remains valid for 60 years.

Documents required for Copyright Registration : -

Following documentation is needed for Copyright registration in India:

  • Name & address of the applicant
  • Identity proof of the applicant
  • Nationality of the applicant
  • Details of applicant interest in Copyright such as applicant are author or representative of the author.
  • Details of Original work and its supporting document
  • A detailed description of work for which Copyright is applied
  • Title and heading of the work
  • Date of publication of the work, if any.
