We are excited to announce the launch of the new Swing iOS app, designed for the amazing community of substitute teachers at Swing Education. The app makes it easier for substitute teachers to review and accept teaching requests on the go, and it’s the latest example of Swing’s ongoing commitment to its growing community of substitute teachers and 2,000-plus national school partners.
As we celebrate the arrival of our new iOS app, we sat down with our VP of Product, Fahm Saeteurn, to learn more about the app’s winning features and get a sneak peek at some upcoming product improvements.
What considerations went into designing this app?
Our subs have requested an app for a long time. When we started brainstorming the app, we went back to them to understand their needs. Substitute teachers do really tough work every day. They’re often on-the-go, working full days with very little downtime, and they’re juggling multiple commitments. We needed a solution that would cater to their lives. This app strives to help them juggle their work in a better way.
What can users look forward to with the new Swing iOS app?
I’m really proud that this app is a faster, more streamlined way for educators to engage with Swing. Our free app enables Swing subs to accept requests instantly, stay logged in throughout the day, and get notified of new requests in real-time. Subs can also showcase the depth and breadth of their professional teaching experience in their profile, which is especially helpful for longer-term requests.
Tell us more about the team that made this possible!
A lot of people made this app possible. The entire product, data, design, and engineering team (casually referred to as “PNE”) was involved at the initial stage. Then a core mobile app team did the heavy lifting. This included our brilliant engineers, Kenric and Julian, talented designers, Sasha and James, as well as our product manager, Carl, who’s been integral at Swing since the beginning. They worked tirelessly for months to solve so many app challenges that are largely invisible to us. Finally, a successful launch doesn’t happen without collaboration from the entire Swing team and our great sub community, whose feedback was invaluable.
Any other product updates or upcoming releases (that we can now share)?
Android users, we haven’t forgotten about you! We’re actively working to develop the Android app as we speak, and we’re really excited to deliver the same seamless experience to our Android users.
