Recap: Organising the Jakarta Blockchain Meetup, hosted by Ethereum Indonesia
Hey everyone! Recently, SWIPE organised the Ethereum meetup in Indonesia and it was a huge success! Our speakers eloquently shared about their ideas and thoughts while answering very in-depth questions from the community. We are looking forward to hosting another meetup at the tail end of this month.

Our event took place at Block 71, a co-working space managed by National University of Singapore (NUS) Enterprise in partnership with Salim Group.
Before we kicked off the event, our COO, Iyan Waer did a quick introduction and gave some background on what Blockchain Technology is all about as well as how it works and where is came from. This is to help those who are joining us for the first time to have some context about this space.
Right after the introduction, we welcomed our first speaker, Rama Mamuaya from DailySocial.id, an Indonesian tech and lifestyle news portal site. Rama spoke about the difference between Blockchain Technology and Cryptocurrencies and touched about how Blockchain Technology is poised to disrupt emerging markets like Indonesia. He also touched on how trends and regulations affect the space and encouraged everyone to keep up to date about the latest happenings.
The next speaker, Jorden Kang, Lead BD Manager of Tomochain spoke about why Tomochain was created, it’s benefits and how it differentiates from other other platforms like Ethereum. Blockchain projects who build on top of Tomochain will enjoy faster Transactions Per Second (TPS) due to their implementation of sharding(to be implemented by Q2 2019). They also intend to transit to Proof of Stake (PoS) instead of Proof of Work (PoW) with their introductions of masternodes. Keep a look out for their Mainnet launch coming soon!
Adytia Raflein, Head of Marketing from Tokocrypto, an Indonesian Fiat to Crypto exchange, spoke about smart investing and how to mitigate as much risk as possible. Lastly, we had our panel discussion! With our speakers and a special guest from Singapore, Pang Xue Jie, COO of WhaleBlocks which focuses on providing niche marketing services to Blockchain projects as well as investing exclusively in digital assets. He answered many of the questions that were asked, especially about his opinions on how his company does their due diligence before they invest into any project and about the regulation landscape in Singapore. The reason why this question was very interesting to the community is because in Indonesia, using Cryptocurrencies as a form of payment is illegal! Read more here
